Do you know what the number one cause of childhood obesity is? Time spent in front of the television, snacking, is one of the primary causes of obesity. Get your child away from the TV and outside, doing something that challenges his body and mind. Check out this list of activities for ideas on how to get your kid to move.

Join a local sport team or club. Tennis lessons. Put up a volleyball net in your yard. A running club. Anything that gets your child up and moving counts.

Put together a friendly scavenger hunt. Work with neighbor parents to determine what should be on the list, and send the kids from house to house searching for everything on the list.

Borrow a neighbor’s dog. You can always teach your child how to be a generous citizen by asking them to volunteer to walk the neighbor’s dog.

Gather together a bunch of neighbor kids for a big, multi-property hide and seek game. If your kids are older, set up a flashlight tag game for after dark.

Buy outdoor games such as crochet, horseshoes, and badminton. Once you’ve got the gaem set up outside, call up your friends and family and have them over to play.

Set up a jump rope competition. Try a few variations – Chinese jump ropes, single person and long, multi-jumper ropes are all good choices. Give out inexpensive prizes, like bubbles or silly string.

Look for summer camps that feature active themes. Many community programs are dirt cheap and lots of fun.

Put your child in charge of mowing the lawn. Most kids can take over at least half the yard by age ten.

Show the kids how to play Twister. Time the kids to see who can last the longest.

Go for a walk with your child. Or hop on bikes together. Or put up a basket ball hoop and start teaching him or her how to shoot. If you use exercise as a way to spend time with your children, they’ll be more eager to participate. Be the example you want your child to grow up to be, and watch their enthusiasm grow!

Got the blues? Having trouble finding the positive? The following suggestions are intended to help you boost your emotional health.

Discover the power of exercise. You’ll be surprised at how even less than thirty minutes of exercise a day can act as a mild antidepressant. Make sure you try a variety of exercise options until you find something you truly enjoy and will look forward to each day. It’ll help you trim down, tone up, and feel better about yourself.

Invest in time with people you like. People need social connections with other people in order to feel fulfilled. Try initiating with someone, even if that is intimidating for you or if you feel like you are too busy to make time for friends. If something negative have been dominating your life (work, a bad relationship, tough parenting situation), take some time away from it and talk to a friend who understands.

Laugh. Laughter is one of the best mood boosters around. Rent a comedy, read a joke book, or call a friend who always makes you giggle. You may even be able to find a laughter therapy group. No kidding! They really do exist.

Give yourself a nutritional boost with vitamins D and B and a bit of Saint John’s Wort. Your body may need the supplemental boost. All of these vitamins enhance your emotional health. Be careful with Saint John’s Wort if you have allergies, though; talk to your doctor first.

Find a therapist. A therapist is trained to help people navigate the choppy waters of emotional distress. Try it out; you may find even one session helps you map out a plan, and your insurance will most likely cover it.

Prioritize your emotional health. How you are doing emotionally affects your body physically, and it affects the people around you as well. Take care of yourself!

A bee sting is certainly no fun to find as part of your day, as it not only can cause you pain, but it can also put poison in your blood stream that makes you feel sick (and of course, it is even worse for those who are allergic to bee stings!), but even though you will be hopeful that you (or your children) will not have to deal with bee stings, it is wise – especially during the summer – to know what you should do in case a bee sting occurs. Taking care of bee stings is easy to do, after all, but if you do not know what you are doing, you will not be able to take the proper steps!

The first thing for you to do is check the area of the sting to see if the stinger is embedded in the skin; if the stinger is not in the skin, you will be in much better shape, as this will mean there was little to no poison emitted, but if the stinger is embedded in the skin, you will need to use tweezers and pull it out.

You will need to mix a little concoction to go over the area of the sting after you have removed (and safely disposed of) the stinger; in a bowl, stir a little bit of water into baking soda until it creates a paste-like substance, then cover the area with this paste and allow it to dry.

The paste you make out of baking soda and water will go a long way in minimizing the effect of the sting and the poison, but you will also need to make sure that no air is getting to the spot of the sting, and that the paste is not crumbling off; you can do this by putting a bandage over the paste and leaving it on for several hours.

If an allergic reaction occurs in spite of these measures, you should immediately visit a doctor – but as long as you take these steps, you will greatly minimize the possibility of any further damage!

Another thing that can help you to be less dependent on caffeine is to start pushing back the time of day when you make your coffee; by either pushing back your “coffee time” by five minutes each day or by a half hour each week, you will eventually reach a point where you no longer actually need coffee at all.

And if you want to replace the energy boost you get from caffeine with something else, you should try eating foods such as oats and apples, as each of these go a long way in giving your body the energy it needs!

                                google_ad_client = "pub-4884246712140490";
                                google_ad_width = 468;
                                google_ad_height = 60;

People work to increase the size of their arm muscles for any of a number of reasons – ranging from functionality to just “looking good” – but regardless of the reason why you are wanting to increase the size of your arm muscles, there are a few things you will need to make sure you keep in mind.

When you are starting to work toward getting your arms bigger, it can be tempting to work out every day, as this seems like the most natural way to get your arms bigger, but actually – if you are wanting to increase the size of your muscles – you should never work out the same muscles on back-to-back days!

When you are working out in an effort to make your arm muscles bigger, you should make sure you are using high weight and doing low reps; this means that whatever set of arm muscles you choose to work out on a particular day should feel exhausted at the end of each set of a low number of repetitions.

Learn more with the Beginners Guide To Muscle Building!

Consistency will be a huge key when you are making an effort to build your arm muscles; even though you cannot work out the same set of muscles on consecutive days, you can still work out each day (simply working out different muscles each day), and if you do not work out every day, you need to come up with a schedule that ensures you are working out on a regular schedule.

And of course, a big part of helping to build muscle mass will be giving your body the right food; you should eat a light, healthy meal before every workout, as this will give you the energy you need in order to power through, and you should make sure you get some protein into your body when your workout ends.

By simply following these easy tips, you will be able to increase your muscle mass in no time, with no problem at all – finally getting your arms looking the way you have long wanted them to look!

Lots of people decide every year (sometimes around the New Year, sometimes on their birthday, sometimes at a random point) that they want to begin working out. One of the big problems, however, is that they jump right into this new “workout routine” and have no clue what they are doing. If you not only want to get started working out but also want this “getting started” to turn into something consistent, you need to make sure you know what you are doing. You can effectively and consistently work out for a long time if you follow these tips to know what you are doing.

The importance of warming up and cooling down is one of the big areas people miss when it comes to getting started working out. Those who jump into their workout every day with no warm up and who end each day with no cool down open their body up to an increased risk of injury. Before you work out, always take the time to stretch properly, and when you finish working out you should cool down with some light stretching and walking.

Check out the best exercises you have never heard of!

Strength training and cardiovascular workouts are two distinctly different things, so it is important that you understand the difference between the two. If you are wanting to bulk up a little bit, you will want to combine strength training with cardiovascular workouts. If, on the other hand, you are simply hoping to keep your body healthy and in good shape, you will simply need to focus on cardiovascular workouts.

Finally, you need to get to know your body – not only the way it feels during your workout, but also the way it is supposed to feel as you work out. You should feel your muscles pushing a little bit while you work out, but you should not experience pain during your workout. Regardless of whether you are experiencing pain while strength training or while doing cardiovascular workouts, pain is a sign you should cut back.

Weight training and cardiovascular training!

You will be able to start working out once you understand these things – doing so in such a way that the workouts will be effective and consistent!

An unexpected headache can put a real kink into one’s day, especially if these headaches have tendency to occur regularly. Furthermore, ibuprofen usually stops working effectively for those people who frequently find themselves dealing with headaches. If this is the case for you, or if you simply want to make sure you do not deal with headaches, it is important for you to learn how you can prevent headaches before they even start.

Must people who suffer from chronic headaches will find that the cause of these headaches is something unique and specific. Staying hydrated throughout the day is one of the best ways to prevent headaches; in fact, you are supposed to drink a gallon of water per day! You will experience far fewer headaches if your body is properly hydrated, which is important to remember if you start to feel that it is too much work to drink a gallon of water each day!

Another thing that frequently causes headaches is not getting enough sleep; adults should get between 8 and 10 hours of sleep each night. After all, the body is less likely to act out against you if you are giving it the rest that it requires.

Many people also find that back and neck problems are the cause of their headaches; this is great news, as massage chairs or chiropractors can fix these problems.

It is also beneficial if you can begin to get in touch with your body to where you are able to know when a headache is coming on. This will enable you to take ibuprofen early on; ibuprofen is much more effective when taken before the headache is at full strength.

Finally, if you tend to get caffeine headaches, there are two ways for you to combat them; the first way, of course, is to put some caffeine into your body. But the second way – the much better way, in fact – is for you to keep in mind the fact that caffeine dehydrates you, and you should always drink extra water after consuming caffeine!

Headaches can make a day seriously difficult to get through, but they do not have to be a serious problem; all you have to do is learn how to prevent them from coming at all!

There are not a lot of people who especially want to be sick, but at the same time, there are not a lot of people who truly know how important antioxidants are for keeping them healthy. Antioxidants, to explain them in the most foundational manner, prevent or impair the oxidation of other molecules. While this can sound like a bad thing on the surface, keep in mind that there are plenty of molecules you do not want oxidized. For instance, brain disease is closely associated with the oxidation of certain molecules. Heart disease is another illness that antioxidants can help prevent. Finally, through exercise you can open yourself up to over-oxidation, which can lead to muscle fatigue. It is therefore extremely important for people to know what foods will introduce antioxidants into their bodies.

Some antioxidants are vitamins, such as Vitamin C and Vitamin E. This means that many fruits and vegetables are a great source for antioxidants. By regularly consuming fruits and vegetables as part of your normal diet, you will keep adding antioxidants into your body, and you will aid in your body’s ability to fight off diseases.

Fish is another excellent source of antioxidants. Salmon and flounder are specially great fish, as they not only provide antioxidants, but provide proteins, minerals, and omega-3 fatty acids as well. Furthermore, you should cook this fish in extra virgin olive oil, which will further increase your antioxidant intake.

Finally, three easy ways to add antioxidants into your body are by drinking green tea, eating dark chocolate, and drinking red wine. While wine and chocolate are not good for your body when consumed in excess, both are very helpful if you take them in small doses. And as for green tea, you can add antioxidants into your body and have a thoroughly relaxing drink, all at the same time. Each of these three is a very easy and even enjoyable way to keep your body healthy by introducing antioxidants.

Sure, it is pretty easy to ignore all the things that will keep us healthy, but it is nearly as easy to not ignore them! And in addition to being relatively easy, paying attention to what you put into your body will keep you healthy, and it will increase your enjoyment of life.

Have you thought about owning a dog, but have been on the fence? The following are ways owning a dog will improve your health.

Owning a dog means you’ll get more exercise. Your dog will beg you for walks, which will help you get outside more. Your dog’s enthusiasm will help you adjust your attitude about exercise. A dog will help you exercise on days when you might have put it off, because the responsibility to your pet will motivate you. Consider other ways to exercise with your dog. Try playing fetch with your dog or teaching him tricks, like how to catch a frisbee. All of this will get your up and moving, which will burn calories and improve your health.

If you have high blood pressure, owning a dog can lower it. When doctors studied pet ownership and health benefits, they discovered petting your dog lowers your blood pressure. The next time your dog wants a scratch behind the ears, settle in for a long rub down, realizing you are benefitting from the experience as much as he is.

Dog ownership opens up social connections and interactions. Even in big cities like New York City, where people don’t talk to each other much, people find dogs to be a good ice breaker. Try bringing your dog to a doggie park where you can talk to other dog owners as your dogs socialize, or take your dog to the pet supply store with you and chat up other pet lovers. Social connections are important for emotional health.

It’s been determined that dog ownership helps with emotional strength and resilience. Studies reveal that a dog’s unconditional love and zest for life actually helps people recover from disappointment and handle stress better. In fact, dog owners tend to live longer than those who don’t own pets. If you get lonley or depressed, a dog may be just what you need.

Want to live your healthiest life possible? Think about investing in a canine best friend.

There are three main levels of distances for a triathlon. The biggest is the brutal Iron Man which includes a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride, and a 26.2 mile run. The next is the Olympic triathlon, which includes a .93 mile swim, a 24.8 mile bike ride and a 6.2 mile run. The smallest of the three is called a sprint which consists of a .47 mile swim, followed by a 12.4 mile bike, and a 3.1 mile run. Sprints have become widely popular across the United States.

The Triathletes Training Bible is a great way to start getting yourself geared up towards training for one.
